I love this poem–esp. today in the midst of winter’s wrath and days after putting boys in short pants and planting apple trees!

A young poet with much promise-I anticipate more from him!

You all got it, right?  Yep, good ol’ Billy Shakespeare! Born on this date in Stratford on Avon (oh to have such glorious place names around here!-just inspires romance don’t it??) He lived through such things as the black plague and the death of his 11 year-old son Hamnet and has been the most touted and acclaimed and quoted author since the completion of the cannon.  In honor of this day (and for lack of my own things to say) I present to you one of my favorite passages–from memory so I hope I still have it close 🙂

What A Piece Of Work Is Man

What a piece of work is man;

How noble in reason, how infinite in faculties;

In form and moving how express, and admirable;

In action? How like and angel!

In apprehension? How like a god.

The beauty of the world; The paragon of animals.

And yet, to me, What is this quintessence of dust?

I wish I had places to use words like quintessence here!  How about you?  What is your favorite bit of the bard? (bawdiness aside for my delicate ears of course 🙂  )

Our children have proven the nature/nurture debate answer with finality!!

Railroad Dad and dandelionmom were both raised on Sesame Street and, well, LOTS of umm shall we say…contemporary media?

The seeds (esp the smaller ones) have not been-the little guys have never seen it at all. Today I have discovered that no matter how we try to advance our own tastes and consider ourselves “refined” or even “sofisticated” we still are drawn to those early-trained tastes!

Proof is the following video… We parents laughed so hard and then noticed the young ones and their totally patient with the oldsters deadpan expressions–course we laughed more then! They did not learn that muppets spoofing old rock songs are funny so…. nurture it is!!

Leastways they didn’t dis my skoolhows rock!!

Presented for your approval (hmm or not?) Bruce Stringbean in “Born to Add”  FYI–I screamed when the sax came out!! watch at least that far!

You watch–didja chuckle?

I saw this cute list on momlovesbeingathome’s place.  Time to start gearin up for storm season and check those flashlight batteries etc.   Her post is fun and funny -while it is a bit early for us northlanders, our time’s a comin’.  Everyone around here (even those transplanted for more than a year!) can point to tornado damage and tell the story.  Isn’t weather fun?  We get such variation here-my fav is the thunder-snow-shower –amazing!  And the list is right on the money when it says we can’t understand how anyone can live in an earthquake prone area!  What’s your favorite way to view God’s power?  Did you ever sing How Great Thou Art because you heard thunder?

Our beautiful fairy-tale geese have arrived!! Wanna see?? Do ya? Do ya???

Our box from Holderread Waterfowl Farm is here!! See how eager they are to meet us? (in case you did not notice my name-dropping-allow me to elucidate for you! The Holderreads are THE name in quality waterfowl world-wide-just being able to say you have Holderread birds is a huge brag-factor because of their standards of quality and commitment to great genetics) Now to open the box!

Here they are with Lucky Linder AKA Mother Goose! He is our new mommy which makes me Gramma Goose!

The 2 bright yellow ones are males, the 2 darkest grey headed ones are females and the other 2 were not sexed so we will see! One more because it is soooo cute!

We got “the call” from the post office at 5:30 AM and I drove the expectant mommy to pick up the babies–so much excitement! We also had to get some greens to sprinkle on the food and water to encourage them to start chowing down! I will keep posting updates as their feathers come in and start curling (and as I play with the camera and get pretty shots of our curly-haired fairy-tale HOLDERREAD geese!)

I hate to mention that we are thinking of names -the last time I did this I found that some of my top choices for our cow were already in use by 1 family for 3 of their beautiful doe-eyed daughters! (so sorry P. V. and E. !! 😳 )- I am hoping to go with prince/princess names maybe from fairy tales that have not been commercialized by Walt? That will be a hard task though so any and all help will be much appreciated-remember they will be snow white in color with long curly fluffy feathers! Got anything for me??

Anyone ever had a best friend move away when you were in school? Remember that sadness? Imagine now that instead of friend it is your cyber-twin! The person you write long (witty) e-mails to and then think “rats! I should have said THAT…” only to get a return e-mail that says exactly THAT. Now imagine this person also has the same number of children, the same commitment to them and hubby, a different faith but with the same resonance and in the same God-with identical views on the nature and sovreignty of HIM. The person you can phone but only at night after the kids are in bed because you talk too long otherwise. You share pain and you share joy. You laugh and laugh-she is so very funny-that there is another person with your starnge sense of humor is amazing in and of itseelf. She is some sort of freaky Spelling Savant and you leave errers for her to find just because it makes her feel gooooood to do so! She is on your bog surfer so every new poem or funny pic is yours to see as soon as it is posted. THEN SHE UP AND MOVES TO BLOGSPOT!! The p.a.i.n. Where O where has my A Broadermark gone? Oh yeah-to that neighborhood on the other side of the cyber tracks. Can we maintain an even longer distance twinship? Does this post make me the new psyco friend everyone tries to lose? I should right a dark,sad poem but every time I try I end up snickering-she would understand that if she were still here!!
